Welcome to
NORTH LONDON SAMARITANS

Samaritans are available 24 hours a day to provide confidential emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide.

We believe in the value of having time and space to explore difficult feelings. We also believe that being listened to in confidence, and accepted without prejudice, can alleviate despair and suicidal thoughts.

North London Samaritans is one of over 200 branches in Britain and Ireland. For information about Samaritans generally, what we do and how we can help, please click here. The site you are now on is about Samaritans in North London, predominantly supporting the London Boroughs of Enfield, Haringey and Barnet.

Whether you are seeking support, are interested in becoming a volunteer or would just like to know more about us, we hope you will find what you are looking for on this website.

Message from the Branch Director

The North London branch of Samaritans provides emotional support across three large north London boroughs, both inner city and suburban. Consequently, our range of callers and the problems they need to talk through covers the widest spectrum. North London Samaritans never know who or what they are going to encounter when they answer the ‘phone. Which is why our selection and training to become a Samaritan volunteer necessarily needs to be rigorous and thorough. However, while the work is very challenging at times, it is always rewarding.

We’re all excited by the launch of our new website: an opportunity to tell more people about who we are, the sometimes life-saving services we provide and how we operate at this particular branch. We’ve been through a lot of changes in the past couple of years – moving to temporary premises and changing our name are just two – but throughout this time we’ve continued to be there for the people of North London and beyond.

So if you’re feeling low and just need someone to talk to, you can call us any time, day or night. We’re waiting to listen and talk, without judgement, with empathy. And if you can help us in any way, please get in touch; our contact details appear throughout the website.

Very best wishes
